Back at the gravel location, Madison Square Park was treated to a beautiful afternoon of music from the Martha Redbone Roots Project. Weaving together influences of soul, spirituals and Native American music, Redbone not only had concertgoers on their feet, but also created intimate moments of quiet and introspection throughout the set. Her use of a variety of percussion only enhanced the eclectic warmth of her music. Redbone’s rendition of “This Train is Bound for Glory,” certainly made an impact on the audience as park-goers poured in to see her vibrant show of musical expression and feeling. The performance was full of life, appreciation and fun.

Opening for the Martha Redbone Roots Project was Pesky J. Nixon. Hailing from New England, the band featured Ethan Scott Baird, Dan Carp, Jake Bush, and Kara Kulpa. With rich and complex harmonies and beautiful melodically driven songs, the four brought a wonderful compliment to the vibrant day in the park. Their songs, while somewhat quiet, only made the audience move and listen closer for what was a truly intimate and fun experience.

With such beautiful weather and even more amazing music in store make sure to stop by next Saturday for music, atmosphere, food and fun at the Mad. Sq. Park Studio Series!
